Earth Day

Today, April 22, is being observed as the 40th annual Earth Day to inspire awareness and admiration for the Earth's environment. The first Earth Day, which was the brain child of Senator Gaylord Nelson, was celebrated on April 22, 1970 in New York.

The Earth day makes us think what is happening to our land, rivers, lakes, forests and air. The environmental challenges we are facing today are much more severe than those faced in 1970 and thus demands new and speedy solutions.

Meanwhile, a collection of forty iconic nature photographs will be auctioned by Christie’s first "Green Auction" in New York to collect money for the environmental groups, which are trying hard to save Earth from troubles such as global warming, which is making calamities such as droughts, floods, forest fires frequent on Earth.

The collection included stunning photographs of Australian sea lions playing in the sea grass beds, dancing polar bears, a mob of giant tortoises gathering at dawn, bull elephants at dusk and the 1968 image of Earthrise captured by the spaceship Apollo.

Earth Day provides us with a chance to give a consideration to how we can live in harmony the limited and priceless natural sources on Earth.
